Talcott Mountain is a local state park in Connecticut with miles of trails, ridge views, and hidden gems like Penwood State Park. The original project was a school assignment ā a simple one-page website built with HTML and CSS but never uploaded. I recently revamped it for my portfolio, focusing on the visuals while keeping the original structure intact.
Project: Website mockup redesign for a local state park.
Concept: The website is a simple one-page design showcasing the park and its three main features: Talcott Mountain, Penwood State Park, and Heublein Tower. Each feature includes a short paragraph describing what makes it worth visiting. The goal was to create a clean, nature-inspired design that feels inviting without overwhelming the visitor.
Process
Research & Discovery
Because the structure was already set, my research focused on visual direction. I looked at other websites and nature-focused designs to see how they handled color, imagery, and typography. The goal was to find a look that felt natural, peaceful, and easy to read.
Mockups
The simplicity of the one-page design allowed me to go all out with the visuals. I chose a color palette inspired by the park itself ā greens, earthy browns, and soft sky blues. Typography was selected for readability and a natural, organic feel. The final mockup shows a clean, inviting homepage that highlights the three main attractions without clutter.
Refinement

I tested different image treatments, spacing adjustments, and text lengths to make sure the page felt balanced. The biggest challenge was keeping the design visually interesting while maintaining the original structure. Once the layout felt right and the hierarchy was clear, I finalized the mockup.

Closing Notes
This was an old school project brought back to life. The structure stayed the same. The visuals were rebuilt from the ground up. The result is a simple, nature-inspired design that lets the park speak for itself.
